Last Day in The Philippines

posted on 2013-08-19 13:00:27 in Philippines

You could almost say it was a bit of a washout, From the minute I got up to the time I went to bed it rained. The resort was almost empty apart from 2 kids and there parents so it was great having a big pool all to myself. It rained so heavy the road to the pool complex was like another swimming pool! It would be a good complex in the sunshine but not worth the effort to get there on this occasion.   To summarize my time in Philippines I thought I would finish with a few keywords:- ...

The Underground River.

posted on 2013-08-17 22:09:57 in Philippines

A great day out even with the rain it didn’t matter. The hotel pick up was at 7.30am and for a change the van was early. As I am now used to working on Filipino time it means I was not ready! I must get back to old ways before I get home. The journey to Sabang was quite comfortable in the mini van despite I manage to get the tiny “Jump Seat” by the door, 2 tours and twice I drew the short straw for seating. The road to Sabang was sealed all the way with the exception of some minor ro...

Puerto Princesa

It was nice to have electricity all night and so I left the AirCon on all night. Surprisingly, when I woke up I felt quite cold but I did manage to sleep the whole night. Maybe I am used to being warm now. The morning started very dismally with heavy rain and dense cloud cover, partway through eating breakfast the clouds brightened and the rain eased back. By 10am it had stopped altogether. Breakfast in the hotel was very basic, I was given the continental breakfast without being asked. I had...

The Return Journey to PP

posted on 2013-08-16 00:37:30 in Philippines

An early start today began with a use up breakfast of fried spam, scrambled eggs and fried tomatoes, finished packing then sat around waiting for the bus to arrive. After the long journey out I was hoping for a more trouble free one back and one that keeps roughly to the timetable.  In Port Barton you can request the bus to pick you up at the house or go to the Tourist Office and wait there. I saw the bus driver yesterday and so asked him to pick me up at home as I had 3 bags to carry. The pick...

Last day in Port Barton

posted on 2013-08-14 22:12:59 in Philippines

To make the most of my last day I took another little boat ride today departing at 7am to go snake spotting! The boat was very small so we could paddle up a river through Mangrove trees. We did manage to see 2 snakes coiled up in the trees, which I was very pleased about, although I would have liked to see a few more. The snakes feed mainly at night on small frogs and similar creatures then head up the trees when the tide comes in to sleep. The snakes I saw are called Gold Ringed Cat Snake and I...

Pamuayan Waterfall

posted on 2013-08-13 20:28:03 in Philippines

The day dawned with a clear sky again, a far cry to yesterday. At least I can make the most of the penultimate day in Port Barton. Today a day of walking to explore the last couple of places I heard about. The first to visit a local waterfall called Pamuayan Waterfall to the north of the town. I was given some basic directions of I could hire a guide at 500peso. I thought the opportunity to be explorer was much better than paying for a guide who probably wouldn’t have the patience required to ...

Blue Cove

Yesterday I stayed in all day, yet another day of rain, very persistent and extremely heavy at times. Unfortunately I have not been able to log onto my website and update blog, I don’t know why as it is accessible everywhere else. Thomas has posted this blog and 1 picture, I hope I can update again soon. The rain from yesterday continued all through the night beating against the roof. It eventually stopped soon after 6am just after I got up. After a quick cook up of fried eggs and tomato I ...

Island trip and snorkeling

posted on 2013-08-09 20:20:36 in Philippines

Great! The day started with a touch of Delhi Belly just what I needed before going out for a day trip on a boat. Our with the trusty tablets and a lucky for me the initial dose was good enough to sort me out for the day. The started with a 45minute boat ride around the coast then a short 20 minute walk to see a waterfall. The guide was in a bit of a hurry to get back to the boat, especially for a photographer who loves waterfalls. It was a nice change from taking pictures on the beach. Ba...

Magandang Umaga, Beautiful morning!

posted on 2013-08-08 20:41:20 in Philippines

Today is the first day without rain and what a difference the place looks. The day started beautiful and clear without a cloud in the sky and although it gradually clouded up it was nothing but high fluffy clouds. Today I saw the travel brochure palm trees, white sand and blue-sky pictures. Of course the temperatures rose accordingly and even though it was on 31ºc it felt more like 41! At least I had the sea to have a swim and cool down in and get refreshed, at least I thought so. The...
